Application

Purpose: To financially assist aspiring Chicago Area Theater performers entering a Musical Theater or General Theater Undergraduate Program OR a Professional Theater School out of College (not Graduate School or a General Theater Class not associated with a Degree or Program).

Target Applicant: Senior or Current Undergraduate in a College Program.

Demonstration of Financial Need: No

Amount: $500 per year (student could apply again for additional years)

Number of Awards: Varies

Distribution of Scholarship Funds: All Scholarship Funds will be paid directly to your school approximately 4 weeks after the start date of school or 4 weeks after your scholarship is awarded (whichever is later).  Attendance at the school will be verified prior to delivering the funds to the school.  Applicant must be attending school in good standing prior to release of the funds.

Eligibility: Senior Year in High School through Undergraduate. Must be pursuing a future in Theater. Must demonstrate a strong background in Musical Theater or General Theater. The planned or current College or Program must have a degree or track in Musical Theater or General Theater. Preference will be given for those pursuing a BFA/BA or BM in Musical Theater/ BFA/BA in Theater Performance.

Application Requirements: On Line Application, Submission of Theater Headshot and Resume/CV, Submission of 2-3 Minute Video Showcasing Performer. See details in Addendum 1.

  1. Submission Deadline for the 2019 / 2020 School Season is June 30, 2019
  2. After submission, you will receive a confirmation of application within 48 hours.  If you do NOT receive this confirmation, please contact us via e-mail.
  3. Please fill out every section in its entirety.
  4. Please enter Video Link and verify it is Public.  Test it.
  5. We cannot record an application without appropriate signatures.

Musical Theatre: Prepare 2 songs (32 bars each). One up-tempo and One ballad.

Prepare a one-minute contemporary monologue.

* If using a pre-recorded track for accompaniment no vocals should be present on the recording.

Theatre: Prepare 2 monologues of one minute each. Use two contrasting styles (one comedic/one dramatic).

Musical Theatre with a Dance Emphasis: Prepare 2 songs (32 bars each). One up-tempo and One ballad. Prepare a one-minute contemporary monologue. Include no more than 60 seconds of a dance solo.

Video Tips:

Tips for Successful Application Video:

  • Does NOT need to be Professionally Recorded.
  • Make sure you are well lit. We want to see you!
  • Make sure we can see your entire body for quality of movement.
  • Review video before submitting. Make sure it meets all time requirements.
  • Record each segment of the audition video several times so you can carefully choose the performance that showcases you!
  • Costumes and props are NOT necessary.

Choosing your audition material:

  • If you are choosing new pieces to you give yourself plenty of time to prepare (Months/Weeks not DAYS)!
  • Put the pieces together as if you were putting on a show.
  • Perform and get feedback from trusted source before filming.
  • Do not change your mind at the last minute and go with a lesser prepared piece.
  • Choose pieces that you connect with – that are appropriate for you. Authentic performance can never go wrong!

You will be contacted if you are selected as a Scholarship Finalist.

  1. Finalists will be required to perform an audition in front of a panel of judges in the Chicago area.  Any costs associated with travel to/from this audition are the sole responsibility of the Applicant.

Details of your audition will be provided to you when we notify you that you are a finalist.

  1. Decisions of the judges are final.   The judges will not be able to provide specific comments on your performance.
